wabbithunter_15 0
well on sunday i got a phone call at 8 in the morning to say my ferret where in the next door neighbours garden but when i got there i couldnt see anything so i checked the cage and sure enough my little jill had disapeared so i was worried trying to run and find her. i went to my mates house to try and get him to help me. we went up and looked about and still nothing, the woman had decking down and there where big gaps in the fence where the fert could get in under her decking but we couldnt see anything when we looked, this had me kind of worried, as i have never lost a ferret. well i left the cage open on the floor of the shed to see if she would come back with the smell and put the separated hobs cage close to the ground to see if that would bring her home as she is in season. well about and hour after we had left the cages down and got something to eat, i got another phone call to say the woman had saw it again and to run up quickly. when we got there the fert was jumping about sniffing the grass then i went to speak to the woman when i had caught the jill and she said " see that hole over there your ferret done that, it must have crawled under the decking and burrowed under the concrete path" i stood there and couldnt beleive what she had said but there was the hole., keeping in mind the path is around a metre and a half wide i dont know whether it had burrowed under it or whether it had just started to dig under her path from the garden. im stumped to whether it dug that far or not but sure, i got her back safe and sound ... A Happy ending and a sleepy ferret Edited April 7, 2008 by wabbithunter_15 Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
That women discovers she has rats beneath her decking? She'll shut the f*ck up. Quote Link to post
wabbithunter_15 0
Know what ditch youve just triggered a thought in my head there have been a few sitings off Mr rat in the past months, do you think my jill will be ok as she is still in season and if there are rats could she be easily infected by the disease ridden b*stards? and she didnt mind the hole in her garden as lets just say its not the most well kept garden. Perfect haven for rats! food for birds and since building work has started they could have disrupted where the rats where living before. sounds to me like theres rats , where would i be without you Ditch? best go inform the woman she may have rats lol Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
do you think my jill will be ok as she is still in season and if there are rats could she be easily infected by the disease ridden b*stards? Best go inform the woman she may have rats lol Wild polecats still have to feed and live, even when in season, mate. I've never yet heard of a mustelid dying of Leptospirosis; And they Eat the f*ckers! My advice though would be to stay the hell away from her rats and, having informed her she Very likely has a 'Rodent Problem', to further suggest she tries the local councils Pest Control / Enviromental Health sections. Possibly not the best in the world, nor the fastest. Somehow I suspect she may be against spending even fifty quid though, if she's as un house proud as ye suggest? The fifty quid being about what a Professional would likely charge to do a proper and timely job on the vermin. Trouble is, it doesn't stop with her property, see? In a typical (presumed?) urban enviroment, it only takes one slacker and everyone around them gets to share in their over spill. This is why I favour personal protection, perimeter style. Stops the b*stards setting up home on Your patch and endangering ye own health. Of course; Ye could always try the 'Have A Go Hero' approach and go messing around yeself. Mate of mine got roped into that caper a couple of weeks ago. Now, as I type, he's learning more than he ever wished to know about what Leptospirosis does to the human system. I hope he asked my advice in time. But it took the hospital hours more to diagnose his condition than it took me. Now I'm waiting to hear from him, thirty six plus hours later and counting. He should be undergoing treatment as I type. If they got to work on him in time, he has a 60% chance of survival. I'm getting F*cking Concerned! But, hey! 'They're only rats; Sling " yer " ferrets down and let the Dogs have a " rag "!' Yeah. Right ..... Quote Link to post
wabbithunter_15 0
terrible to hear ditch hope he gets better! i think il leave it to the professionals as the only trapping ive had with rodents is the storm of mice that come into our house every winter. had around 16 last year and about 10 this year. cant afford to let the b*stards breed since they can breed at 3 weeks old or so. I didnt think about the wild polecats but im still not going to risk her being with rats, its not worth hasstle incase she meets a mummy rat,not nice! wouldnt risk a good working ferret. il just have to make sure i lock their cages properly in future. What i will do though is put a few rat traps out just inside the fence where the ferret may have gotten under her decking and see if i can get any thing if there is something there. Thanks for commenting people:) Quote Link to post
