john b 38
OK - well if it was me I would take it down off the bales and put it right up against the side of the stack. It looks like a central call bird compartment so put one of the ends of that against the bales. This minimises the contact points between birds inside and out encouraging them to go into the catch chambers. When I use mine I put the call compartment up against a fence or similar and preferably under a tree. This is is mine at the moment - you can see the call compartment is obscured on almost all sides. The birds perch on the fence, then have a hop about, then back up and so on until they're in. Luckily is out at a location where they can call me as soon as it catches so I can visit several times a day if necessary. I've just taken 5 in 24 hours with that set up. It's not the only way but it works for me. Quote Link to post
bagforthebadgers 0
A few of you might know that main man has just got him self a couple of larsen traps, but aint having much luck with catching, the birds are about and getting close but just wont go in this is the closest that they come . he got them baited up, any ideas on why he aint catching ????? I've done quite a lot of larsen trapping with my cousin. We use rabbit and eggs as bait. If we have magpies that are not willing enough to go inside the traps we try and move the trap further into the pairs territory. Then they seem more commited to going in. Good Luck with it!
