Tinman 0
Hello I have Moles in my field so I decided to order 3 Duffus traps from The Flat Pack Company. What I would like to know is when placing your Mole trap in to the Mole tunnel where do you hold the trap without the chance of getting your fingers caught if it goes off while positioning it into the tunnel? Cheers Tinman Quote Link to post

Cheers Tinman Hi mate, Ok you've got the trap set and the hole just the same length as the trap. Pick up the trap by thumb and fingers just across the back like you would a crab. If it springs, you'll get hit but not badly and you won't get caught. A bit of practice at home setting and springing then resetting, will soon have it second nature. If they're brand new, it will take a week or two for the scent to disappear, there are loads of methods for getting traps ready to use, but personnaly, I wash them in washing up soap Fairy liquid or the likes, to degrease them, give them a really good rinse, then hang them outside for a few days. It works but so will using them brand new after a few days. Good luck. ian. Quote Link to post

Tinman 0
Ian, thanks for the advice. Mole Trapper, while I was setting the traps in the house for the first time I took a hit to the thumb, Mrs found it very amusing. Good point a chap made on your post though MT about wearing leather gloves. Tinman Quote Link to post
sidebyside 0
Interesting that you clean you traps before use, I just chuck new traps into my trappers bag along with the older ones and all of the other junk I carry, by the time the first mole patch is arrived at they are all the same covered in dry soil etc, I buy 20 traps at a time as and when they are needed. There is often discussion as to "weather" traps prior to use! I always boil my traps in water with some soda added or automatic washing powder will do...........then rinse them thouroughly and hang them outside for a few weeks (see picture). This removes all grease and oils acquired during manufacture which is essential when trapping moles. That said, if you catch moles using brand new untreated traps then who am i to argue........it's what works for you at the end of the day. Rolfe. Quote Link to post
