You will need to try some and see what you and the gun favour, always a strage one this as someone will say xxx is great and someone else will say xxx is rubbish! You say you are using a light load at the moment so I assume your Benelli (am I assuming to much) is NOT a S/A. These can be very fussy with light loads! Quote Link to post

Yep they will tend to have less recoil than a 28g, however you still have to check whether the cartridge is High or Low velocity, this will also effect the kick. (also felt, plastic, etc wad) 24g for what sort of clay discipline, fine for Skeet but most will tend to use a heavier cartridge for most other disciplines? Guest benelli
normal clay, sometimes the high tower. Can you get a 28g that will kick less, what about the gordon recoil system. Quote Link to post

What is Normal clay, DTL, Skeet, Sunday bash down the Farm, Full Bisley type sporting, etc??? Hunt around, there are some slow burns and low recoil 28 about, ask someone like justcartridges.com. What is this gordon recoil system? Edited March 16, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
Guest benelli
gordon recoil is this thing in the cartridge.check out some of hull cartridges. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
the gordon recoil system is used by Gamebore and Remington. on most gamebore cartridges they will have a blue disc set in the base of the brass around the primer, when the cartridge is fired the disc expands and somehow takes out a bit of recoil. i can recommend you some low recoil but excellent 28g loads, but these are only my favoured shell and others may say different, i find that Victory 480 Trap in Plastic Wad are excellent for low recoil but the pattern is superb, this is what i use to pattern all of my guns with, in a 3/4 choke they still put 98% if the pellets in a 30" circle. they go at around 1310 feet/sec. for any type of shooting these will be more than adequate. Also, if you can try the Hull Pro One DTL 300 cartridges, these are faster at 1450 FPS, but they are designed as low recoil for shooting 200-300 targets in a day for DTL etc. they are also truly excellent as are the others, the only thing with either of these cartridges is price, you get what you pay for and they tend to be pricey. personally i wouldnt put price before comfort and satisfaction. cheers ss06 Quote Link to post

Guest benelli
I like the look of HUll pro steel. Are there disadvanteges to using it like damaging your gun after a lot of use? Is seel safe to use at claygrounds? Quote Link to post
Geoff.C 0
For a nice light load, I use Express HV 24 grm, I have not found them wanting at my clay club, they will break any target, as long as I do my bit right. There is one clay club,(can't just remember where) where steel shot is compulsory, I think it's to do with the wetlands around it. Although a lot of new guns are "steel proof", most steel shot is contained in a plastic wad, so there is no barrel contact. Our club has a fibre wads only ruling, so that could cause problems as the committee is thinking about steel as a cheaper alternative to lead. Steel is safe to use on clays but targets like running rabbit could get some ricochets so you must wear safety specs. Quote Link to post
