jasper65 6
Ok I know I'm getting a sad old twat but I'm getting a bit of a buz for one. there's alot of hordes of Treasure trove and other bits and peices found in the area worth a few bob, one old ruin near by called Bawsey Ruins has uncovered a few Torcs in the near by fields over the years... a good few decent finds have been made within 15 mile of where I live.... Does anyone go Detecting and have you found anything decent? also any ideas on on what make to get? Jasper
jasper65 6
this has nothing really to do with Metal detecting but I found this Arrow head in a field not far from the Ruin mentioned above ... Jasper

Guest WILF
What an excellent find jasper.........I would be chuffed with that. I know a fella who is in to metal detecting, he has found some decent things, but I think the old farmers give you just as hard a time as if you were lamping.........so he says anyway. Stabs 3
I had a metal detectorist who used to come onto my ground and he was a cocky b*****d. There's a roman villa on (under) there and he was after finding it. He knew all of the law too and everytime we escorted him off, he just told us he'd be back again...and he was. The farmer used to urge me to shoot him but the cops told me to stay away from him as he had HIV. Last I heard the farmer was going to persuade the Polish lads who worked the farm to work him over Funny thing is I could have told him where the villa was as it was under a badger sett that I kept my eye on My plan was to get Tony Robinson and Time Team in and then have them all done for badger digging
Guest Ditch_Shitter
My plan was to get Tony Robinson and Time Team in and then have them all done for badger digging I f*ckin near spat my fag out, I laughed so hard at That one, mate! Jasper; Get One! I had one once. Knackered f*cking thing it was. Good make, apparrently, but poggered. I used to live 200 yards from a 'tourist' beach and was out there every day. Used to make my own beer money out of digging out the beer money they'd lost into the shingle. So absorbing and theraputic though. The rest of the world and it's worries - even the odd, topless, girl - could go to rat shit for all I cared. I'd just pace around as close as was viably decent, even a bit closer, but only to cover that ground and carry on down the beach at the exact same crawl. Long beach. Kept me occupied whilst building up a thirst. Best of all, I was brazen. So I got there before the 'professionals' from the local club lined up and began their own sweep. But that was me. My old next door neighbour? He was up a level! Used to go out at night with a mate of his. Drew up their plans of where to search like a military exercise. Of course, this was " Pre Ban " " Born to Detect ". But they could wear headphones to hear the signal and the illuminated dial didn't show for shit. Never trashed anyones land in a 4X4 either. Shit; I shouldn't wonder that anyone seeing where they'd been just thought the badgers had let them off the night before without much more than a passing glance. Alough, as Wilf points out; On some places? Watch ye f*ckin self! Maybe choose a dark, windless night? Anyway, yeppers. Reccommended

jasper65 6
Any story behind the area Jasp?...........plague burial ground or civil war battlefield? I think it was the Plague Wilf that killed them off! some of the bones I found includeing the Jaw bone was of kids, you could see the baby teeth coming through . This is some Info I just found about the place! the time team also did a job on it a few years back, they found a good few skeletons and bits and bobs. there's a old wood close buy called "Crow Wood" I used to go Roost shooting in! in the middle there's a mound with a moat and some old foundations still visable, aparantly this was part of one of the villages where they died of the plague... if you look at some of the pic's of the old ruin in the third link you can see lots of Holes in the sides, the Jackdaws and Kestrels would nest in these when I was a kid! many a time I would risk life and limb climbing up there to see what was about .. Guest craftycarper
couple of pointers guy's, you need written permission (obvious) by land owner and an agreement as whatever you find is technically theirs as its on their land, so some sort of split percentage wise is a good move if you find anything of value. Also you have to look into the treasure trove act. http://www.britarch.ac.uk/cba/potant15.html liability insurance & backfill your holes. I will post a few pics later this evening of a few of my finds from a few years back if i get time. It ain't easy picking as some people think, you will probably be digging up used shotty carts(bloody shooters) , silver foil and all sorts of farm tools lost over the years.
