snareman1234 0
I have a racoon and 3 squirrels that are all nicely salted up and drying well. Now this sounds all good, except for the fact that i have no idea what to do now. I would like to tan these hides for myself. I do not intend to sell them. So how can i preserve these hides, and make them supple leather? any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
I Think the place is called " Taxidermy.Net ". Something like that. Plug it into Google and ye'll soon come up with it. Massive place with loads of sections. Being American based it'll bring answers from nearer to you, mate. Like; No good one of us saying, " Oh, buy a white leathering kit from Snowdonia. " See what I mean? There's plenty of 'Secret Recipes' out there. Most just varied degrees of salt and alum solution. Want " Supple leather " though? No secret to that. Just painstaking preperation followed by damn hard work. Go ask the more local, more expert guys and then use the skins ye have there to learn on. But remember: Nothing bought in a plastic bag will give ye the sort of result ye dreaming of without a Lot of work from you. Quote Link to post
