Guest baldie
remmy,s and howa,s at the minute. They are on with them for the tikka t3, and the sako will probarbly follow sometime. Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
i would more than likely go for another .243 maybe with jewell triger surgen action and kreiger fluted barrel with more than likely a mcmillan A5 stock, this would be used as both a stalkig and target rifle, so any suggestions would be welcome, but i'm kinda at the limits of what the tikka m595 can do for me even though it is a great rifle. So any pics or suggestions you have i would be intrested in hearing, Oh and most importantly wat kinda price we chatting............thank you for your time SS. Sorry for the delay but having connection problems here on the net. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
You would have to contact the shop buddy for exact prices, i dont have them. We will have surgeons shortly, and the mcmillans can be had here, if nothing too exotic, but a krieger barrel is a problem,as we dont have a license with them as now.It wouldn,t be a problem getting one, but it would take time, and obviously a firm order would be required. My opinion, for what its worth, is that krieger are probarbly the finest barrel made, and to be frank, wasted in .243.Kriegers are usually fitted to benchrest guns, in benchrest calibres, that can take full advantage of the barrel quality. But, i can see you want the best, judging from your list, and there,s nothing wrong with that. Quote Link to post
dickyboy 1
Thats cool....thanks for trying to explain it...... Can/do you do the same customs on howas? Which are the best remi or howa? i've heard very good things about the howa Also when blueprinting if the cuts are made to an open tolerence and the manufacturing process has taken off to much metal how would it be made true? I come from an engineering background and can't fathom this out What barrel, action, on a wilddog tactical stock would you reccomend and how much would that be What length and manufacturer barrel, heavy fluted with a magazine and stud etc I think i'm getting a rough idea of what i want........... Guest baldie
Blueprinting involves fitting the action to a mandrell, so the mandrell can be clocked true. The action threads are then re-cut with a single point tool, approx 10 thou oversize, and trued up in the process. Then the action face is recut, bolt abuttments etc, all from the true imaginary centreline running through the middle of the mandrell, and thus the action. I dont like howa,s , there isn,t a decent trigger available for them, though there,s nothing wrong with the actions, purely a personal thing. Regarding prices etc, you would be better ringing the shop buddy, as i dont have them. i,m in thursday and friday if you want a chat. Quote Link to post
dickyboy 1
if i have a quiet day thurs or fri i will give you a ring.....thanks.....the trigger is for me as for everyone a VERY important part.....really liking the sounds of these............do you go to any gamefairs and have a stall, need to try some guns stocks etc Quote Link to post
dwighet 1
Dicky, for what you want to do, a .223 would be fine. I assume you are new shooter?A .223 with a 1 in 8" twist is perfectly capable of driving a 77 grain bullet accuratly to 600 yards for target work, and thats the top end of this calibre. Ok, if you want something a little more exotic, then go for some of the others mentioned, but then you are into serious case prep work, and probarbly some fireforming etc. I specialise in building custom remington actioned guns.I have brand new actions on the shelf, saving the customer buying a complete gun, and throwing half of it away. They come fully blueprinted, that means the action threads are recut, the reciever face, recut, the bolt abuttments, recut, and the bolt lugs recut, and handlapped to the abuttments. Then the bolt face is recut, all the above, are recut to the actions blueprinted centreline. Then the bolt raceways are fully polished, and the bolt cocking ramps too. Then a border "archer" barrel is fitted, along with a custom recoil lug. This gives a full custom barrelled action, available at the price of £850.....there arent many custom actions available at that price. Then all you do is pick a stock, a trigger , and yes, jewell are the best, i have two, and associated bits and pieces, like which rail, do you want/need a magazine system etc. To give you an idea, most customers get a full blown custom gun for around the £1500 mark. heres a couple, the top one is mine. and here,s my last rifle i built for myself, but this is a lot more specialised, and wouldn,t leave much change from four grand. If you want recomendations on top quality smiths, here are a few. Steve Bowers, who must be down near you mike Norris Steve Kershaw, who is up near me at east yorks norman Clarke at rugby callum ferguson in scotland pete walker in west yorks These are all top grade smiths with prices to match. There are others, but i wont recommend them. We are in barnsley. Hey Baldie.what make is the mod on the black rifle.. Thanks Dwight Quote Link to post
