Deker 3,478
now i know that i shouldnt go for the shot if it is not a head shot but i think im quite keen and just need to be more reserved. thanks for the advice. say i do take it to a gunsmiths and get it powered right up i know i will need a license but does it mean i will also need a gun cabinet and all that jazz. may sound like a daft question but just unsure We all make mistakes and we all have to ask questions... Yes ..you will need a cabinet, and good reason and land and potentially a lot more You will have to justify your requirement, show good character, not have a criminal record (certain offences) or questionable medical history, its simple and fairly obvious really. One thing though, if you want a FAC: when you get your home visit from the FEO/FLO (whatever they want to call themselves in your area), don't say I've had lots of experience shooting Game birds in February with an Air Rifle!! Ian292 0
i thought you couldnt shoot birds at night ???????or is it birds at roost ???? There are various laws concerning shooting birds at night wether they be Game Birds or vermin species. Suffice to say there are plenty of legal ways to cover just about all your night shooting. The important wording is LAMPING (artficial light from just about any source). Lamping is NOT allowed for almost everything in the bird world. Birds can only be shot with artificial light in or on a man made structure, ie buildings, and that includes NV gear. But you shouldn't be shooting pheasants with an air rifle anyway. They are not reguarded as suitable quarry and can be a fast way of loosing permission. An AA410 should be very accurate at 30 - 35yds, but you need to put in some range time. If you are only getting 2'' groups at 35yds you need to change pellet brand, buy a better scope or get your gun serviced. Regards, Ian. Edited February 17, 2008 by Ian292 Quote Link to post
keeper 51 78
hey Ben here. recently purchased a airarms s400, rely like it deadly accurate just not deadly powerful, well with pheasants. i have been out the last couple of nights and hit about 2 or 3 and not brought them down. im all for humanely hunting but it has been too dark to go for head shots. so two questions rely does anybody know how to bring the power up slightly on and s400 and whats the best way to go about shooting pheasants. ps. im not taking anymore shots that arent head shots, i just bottle it for the sake of missing and scaring it. oh and does anybody know the effective range on this gun ben the effective range of any wepon is dependant on your ability to place the shot within the kill zone of your selected quarry with enough impact to cause your quarry a quick death body shooting any prey with an air wepon is not a good idea most modern air rifles are more than capable of stoping quite large prey this was a problem canada goose wich as you can see is now an ex problem neck shot at approx 15-20yds i would not recomend using an air rifle on any thing this size but at the time was only wepon i had with me b.s.a super 10 carbine 11.8ft.lbs its not the gun that kills its the person that pulls the trigger remember theres no substiute for practise in the field or on the range if its in the field please do not use farmers gate posts or any thing that can cause a problem for you or any body else that may wish to shoot over the same ground happy hunting reguards mike Quote Link to post
