dastardlydeed 9 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Share Posted February 14, 2008 i buy stripping knives cheap from www.groomers.com if they charge you tremendous shipping i can probably mail them to you for less. right now they are on sale for $5 US but they are not professional quality. if you arent worried about a show dog it wont matter. i also use the pumice stone to keep the coat in shape between stripping. Don't bother in winter, nowt to do with weather just seems to lose hair when the dog is working underground pushing through tubes. A tight stony earth saves me stripping him. Quote Link to post

slip 1 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Share Posted February 14, 2008 when do you guy's strip your terrier's out, if you do, and hows the best way to do it as much info as poss please, as i ent got a clue how to do it ok lad this very time consumeing at that start but left to your own devices in an old shed mug of tea and a radio can b very relaxing what you need is agood striping knife dog brush!! a table at waist height an stool a terrier show lead which i will explaine! set up your your table put your dog on it get your lead on the dog and from the beam in the roof tie the laed up with a enough strain on it to have the terrier on his tippy toes!!this resticts the dog from moving and saves your back but b very CAREFULL NOT TO LEAVE THE DOG UNATENDEAD AS A LOT OF DOGS HAVE BEEN HUNG brush the dog out with the normal brush removeing all knots from the coat going with the grain of yhe hare!dog shoukd b nice an fluffy from this an clean from the wash!take your stripping knife and hold it in such away that your first finger from your thumd is at the back of the blade and with ur thumb catch a small bit hare between thumb and blade and strip take to much and the dog will let ya know go with the grain of the hare until satisfied best of luck with it mark Quote Link to post
