Ferrets Fighting

Recommended Posts

I have a Jill here which is now about 7 years old, she's been one of my best workers aswel as the Hob around the same age which recently died. late last year I picked up through friends 3 more Ferrets and made a pair which was Unrelated, The other spare Ferret is a Hob and has always been on the nasty side but did come off some good working parents, because of this I wanted to pair him with my 7 year old Jill which I tried today....

All seemed ok while they was sniffing each other arses! but the next thing I know the Hob nailed her in a throat hold leaving her sqeeling! thankfully I got him off and she seems fine but is this just Rough sex games :whistling:? or is he going out to kill her :hmm:?

I'm also a bit worried because of her age! she's been a cracking worker and I would love to get something off her for one more year or am I asking too much of her? any advice on Rough sex or the ferrets gladly apreciated ;)....

Cheers

Kay's got a valid point, mate. Seven is an 'Older' ferret and no doubt about it. And ye shouldn't have too much trouble picking up a kit or ten soon enough, from someone elses perfectly good stock.

Regards the 'attack'? Ye say " Throat ". Back of the neck's more usual in sex play. But then, I can't help thinking that, had he been out to kill her, he'd have done so.

All the same, yeppers; I'd be building him a place of his own and booking some fresh blood - or put him over one of ye own, younger jills.

I think he's just showing her he's top dog and it will settle down in no time

I took litters off my older ferrets and its not worth it small weedy kitts etc it take a lot from a older jill to rear kitts

Cheers for the replies . I must admit to being worried about her age for breeding.. last year was the only year she never bred! every other year before that I was averageing sometimes upto 8 kits from her with my old Hob. she's a nice small albino Jill and boy do I wish I had kept some back when they bred before .....

It okay for me to say because ive a few ferrets ,but i never bred from them till there 3 rd year and only if they have proved themselves as a worker then i run the young on and never try them till there 6 months .Im pretty impressed with a wee jill which was last years kitt and she only been out 5/6 times this year .But its a dam site harder for guys with a couple of jills if anything happens to one of them and they need a worker
