woodchip 2
ive recently taken on a 6 month old collie X greyhound he was a rescue i have been fine tunning his basic training and he is doing well and he is good with the ferrets i have taken him out ferreting once but it was an unsucessful day so all he did was wonder around the garden . This dog will be a ferreting dog and a dog to retrieve shot bunnies when im on the farm, (im not intersted in lamping .) so what i need to know is, is there anything else i should be doing as i want him to be a great dog and i dont want to let him down Quote Link to post

telboy 0
You ve made massive progress by breaking him to ferret I think collie cross greyhound is ideal for the job you have in mind. They are so eager to please you. and going off your question you feel the same way about the dog. Sounds to me like the beginning of a perfect partnership. Training a dog is a bit like raising a child The most valuable thing you can give it is your time. Teach it To retreive and come when called Let it see the ferret every day so it sees it as a workmate. You will have bad days when nothing seems to go right . Dont worry be patient pack up doing something its good at tomorrows another day You will get some good advice off this site and some not so good. Most will be very helpfull make your own mind up about the rest. REMEMBER nobody knows your dog like you do.. best of luck Quote Link to post
