Guest craftycarper
Well after oversleeping yesterday i finally managed to get for a few hours and boy was it blowy. Apart from being waterlogged the temperature had dropped to so i was expecting mr bunny to be at home in his nice cozy burrow? The ferreting was put aside on arrival as i found quite a few nice sticks (hazel) which i cut down and put in a nice heap to one side to collect later, and then it was off to find a few rabbits. I don't know about you folks but there seems to be a lack of rabbits about in my area of late, none spotted on the fields and none spotted throughout the wood, even the burrows i found did not seem to be freshly used either, i have had the same problem with going out with the gun of late as well, four trips out with the AA and four trips back with an empty bag, lets hope today will be a bit different First few holes nothing showing, then a four holer and 2 rabbits, were off, god noo's how many holes later and zilch else, then the skies opened up and by that time i'd had enough, what a croc of . So it was back to the motor and time to pick up me sticks, as i got to the pile i noticed a long white tail trailing the floor bolt off into some brambles by where i'd left the sticks, so there i was waist deep in bramble with a stick beating the bushes trying to flush the bleeder out, was it a fert? well maybe i'll catch a glimpse off it again later this week, no wonder the rabbits are not about . On the drive out the weather broke and i decided to give a few more holes a go. Twenty odd holes or more that were starting to cave in as i clambered around setting my nets and in with different fert this time, not interested at all so back to the other fert in she went several times i must admit and then deadly silence, a cuppa later and out came the old knocking box. She seemed to be moving about to and fourth in an area of about 2-3 ft square so it was time for a dig, 2ft down and there she was with a rabbit stuck in a stop end. http:// After i removed the dead un three more appeared from the stop end and bolted back into the main tunnel net reset and she was back in and a few minutes later another two bolted stayed a bit longer but could not find the last rabbit so maybe it found a pop hole while my back was turned. All in all not a bad couple of hours out, 5 rabbits and twelve sticks in the loft drying out for the next twelve months. Sorry about the lack of pics but weather wise it was a bit crap. http:// Edited January 8, 2008 by craftycarper Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
You did well. Not easy when the bunys are low in numbers, i know the feeling. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Nice one! The rabbits are a bit thin on the ground round our way at the miniute, and the ones that are there don't seem to like using the burys either. Quote Link to post
