Lurcher dog rescues

Probably gonna get me arsed kicked here, but here goes. What do you folks make of the above, i had registered on a couple of these site a few months back as my other half wants a small lurcher as a pet and pet only. Having all ready been registered on one of the most popular ones from which i got my first lurcher from a few years ago, not through the rescue itself but through the homes offered board on its site. No problem there all went well. Anyhow because i was registered i placed another message on there to save the other half registering to which i have had no replies. The problem i then had was when i joined another rescue after a bit of banter i found that there was a certain negativity towards me(maybe i'm a bit paranoid) i suddenly had an email from one of the site mods regarding a post i had made which apparently said i was shooting at the weekend, this was very strange as i had not made the post in question, and i also work every weekend. I requested that they sent me the post in question so i could see what the hell it said but alas they did not respond to my request. After this i made a post explaining exactley what my hobbies consited of fishing, ferreting and shooting etc and that i was hiding nothing and that the dog in question was not for myself but the other half. I distinctly got the impression that after this post i was being distanced from all enquiries regarding a dog, and apparently my user name was being checked and kicked about all of the lurcher rescues/databases, after a little bit of banter that got heated i deleted myself from the site as i had had enough, christ all i was trying to do was get a dog for my other half a give it a decent home for the rest of its life, but is it me or are these people very clicky and off there trolleys

I do a bit of work for rescues, mostly lurcher and greyhounds and yes, some rescues will take against you if you are someone that works thier dogs. It depends where you go, PM me and I can give you the details of some sites if you like.

The main rescue I help will rehome to working homes, if it suits the dog but she mostly deals with track greyhounds. I did foster a lovely little beddiexwhippet for her recently that went off to a working home and now spends his days rabbiting!

I take my hat off to those heavily involved in rescue, they see some harrowing sights, day in, day out brought about by a nation of so called animal lovers! Its not something I could do 24/7 and how some of the dogs can go through the terrible things that they have done and still have faith and love for humans is beyond me but there you go.

i'm not knocking what these folks do, but i made it quite clear that this dog was not gonna be worked, it was to be a pet only and all the contact details i gave were my other halfs as we don't live together. The homecheck was to be at hers and basically there should not have been any involvement from me apart from placing the posts on sites, but it seemed like i was getting dragged in to a debate because of what i do :censored:

well i have no objection supporting ''genuine rescues'' but i wont support ''animal collectors'' and basically i called someone a collector, tough really the truth hurts , but after i went 10 rounds with the '' faces'' i couldnt be arsed so thought f**k it :laugh:

On all of the rescue forums I go on people know I hunt, some accept it and some don't. My reason for being there is to try and help dogs and if people don't want my help because of my views then so be it.

As I said, some forums are more pro working etc than others. What was the forum you joined if you don't mind me asking? PM me if its easier.

I didn't mean to sound as though I thought you didn't respect what rescues do, that wasn't my view at all.

That was another thing that f****d me off'' they wont home to ferreters, so i had my say on that as well, i cant be doing with idiots who dont know one end off a ferret from the other & become '' self appointed experts '' over nite

Forget the Greyhound homes and most lurcher charitys.........they dont want to know about working homes.

Just remeber that next time you go to drop a few pennies in the pot at a show or something........

BDH...........give them your money and support

name and shame time i think :) lurcherlink i had no problems with, as i said i had my first beddy x whippet through a post on the homes offered section, in fact i posted on LL about what happened on the other site and give em there dues i had very positive feedback from most of the people on there who i believe work there dogs too. The problem i had was with southern lurcher rescue, not very interested i thought, and as kay stated some of them seem to collect dogs or pass them off between there own little circles some owning several or more dogs...

One of the forums I go on will assess the dog and the situation and if ferreting is something that the prospective owners do they won't rule it out if it suits the dog.

Exactly, if there genuinly interested in the animals future then a working home can & should be a possibility, not all this sickly pink crap i read daily, like '' little fuzzy wuzzys new coat'' . it makes me want to reach for a gun & end it all :censored:

If they concentrated on the real issues & left the politics behind the animals would find homes a lot bloody quicker, mind i seem to recall they never objected to '' show owners'' :hmm: , its all cosmetic & bollox

ohh i am going on a bit now best shut up i think

SLR are a pretty new rescue and although they came about because of LL it is seperate to them.

I have heard mixed views on SLR but i've not had any negative dealings with them myself.

Could Kaye not help you via LL, I know they are pretty full at the moment.
