netrigger 568
It depends on the Material that iam making the net off so to speak !! Theres a helluva lot involeved in the makeing of a hand made net! regarding the selvaged mesh !! WELL ITS UP TO THE NETMAKER to decide whats best!! keep it plaine regarding the so called Hemp!!! Guest Rabbiteer
Making a 4 ply hemp net 75yds long would you recommend a double salvage finish to it or would it be ok with out one. Just thinking about the extra bulk on th end pins thats all. Regards Roger I have just come back from holiday at 0249hrs im more interested in replying to a thread than going to bed.................................................How sad am I I have just completed my 5 strand hemp net, I got all my bits from Pat at bridport nets. After having a chat with a few of the masters on here I decided what harm would it do to put a Double salvage on to it. To be honest im glad I did. It runs out so smooth now and I believe the spun nylon would last longer than the hemp on the running lines. I have yet to use the net in anger and im trying to convince the wife I should take the boy ferreting on Xmas day but I dont think shes having it. I will get some pics up tomorrow / Later today of the net set out and on the end pins so you can see for yourself, and as netriger said it's up to you. My nets get dragged over alsorts of crap when they make a catch so if it helps it last a bit longer it hs to be a good thing in my eyes.................................... Wishing you all the best, Nik Quote Link to post
R_Oldroyd 17
Rabbiteer, Have you used hemp for the salvage or something else (spun nylon) and what length did tyou make the longnet in the end, Regards Roger I have decided to keep it simple to keep weight down on the hemper and not bother with a salvage and just see hoe it goes. I think that if you have several nets and you don't use the same net all the time it will last longer. Same principle as clothing really. Edited December 24, 2007 by R_Oldroyd Quote Link to post

R_Oldroyd 17
Have to say its a strong we beasty Rabbiteer you have there. Just me but i don't think you needed the salvage but thats just me. If did put a salvage like that on me nets i would be having problems on me end pins especially if it was a 50yd net. Nice to see you haven't been tight on bag though. Its a funny thing bag too little and they bounce too much and it just gets in the way. Hope everyone had a great xmas regards Roger.
