There isn't actually a defined acreage that you need, what is important is that you have proper backstops to enable you to shoot safely,or a high seat to shoot down from.I only rang my Firearms Dept. the other day and they confirmed this for a .243 cal and a .22-250 cal.I actually know of someone that uses a .243 cal on 2 acres of land..................martin.

4-6 acres depending on what the fire-arms officer is like and what the ly of the land is like

as above like the guy says. you could have 300 acres but if its flat and got no back stops he mite not pass it. it just depends on what land you have to shoot over. and as i see you live in scotland im sure its not going to be flat ground all over. put in and see what your feo says mate. good luck ;)

ps as for the rifles i wouldnt bother going for the 222 as the 243 will do both jobs fox and deer. but as its you 1st time applying they mite not give you 243 right away. in which case you would need the 222 then. i would perfer 223 to 222 as there is more choice of ammo and rifles. but like i said mate put 243 down as you never no you mite get it 1st time.

its down to your own police force they are different across the country. i cant get a centrefire 1st time of applying. but i could now ive had the fac for 6 months. i just havent got round to going for 223 yet as there is a massive back log here in west mercia. six months in somecases. which is a joke i think !. but yours will be better and bet your gets yours quick as long as your land passes fella

Hello mate i have just been threw the firearms part one trying to get a .22 for rabbit control i put in four farms thinking this would help the application they came to see me ask me why have you put so many farms in got the impression was causing them work they asked me about experiance which i have none with rim fire just air rifle and a bit with shot gun any way they said our gaffer is reluncant to give one out with out any experiance but we like the look of you and will try our best in our report the weeks went by got a call saying forgot to ask you about shot gun did not realease you wanted that as well you will get that but not the firearms one so thats what i have got suppose what i am saying it does not matter how much land you have it down to the chief and what he thinks if all this about definate experiance needed at a club needed had been on the application form i would not have bothered any way i have the shot gun and will eventually hope to get the rim fire so hope my story helps

well i cant see why you havent got a 22 lr granted ? you had ther land and that passed ok i guess did it ? if so i cant see why you shouldnt be given one :hmm: ive only had air rifles befor i got mine and i have to have mentoring for 3 to 4 months before i can shoot the rimfires on my own. havent you got anyone that shoots them that could be your mentor ?

if not i would ask them again mate. i think its a silly rule mentoring on rimfires after all what they are saying im safe to have a gun and keep one but not aloud to fire one on my own. that bullshit i think. thats why mine is being took off.

hope you get yours sorted to mate
