white van man 3,558
Just putting the feelers out as I will be looking for a busher in the near future. Looking along the lines of a cocker x terrier but would consider most breeds off working parents. I would also look at a dog/bitch that is working already/needs bringing on and needs a decent working home but it would need to be 100% with kids and steady around ferrets, stock. I would also like to know your thoughts on having the following in the mix. Pros and cons. Beagle Springer Cocker I know the main thing with the terriers is them going to ground but I have worked with terriers that don't and spaniel types that do!! white van man 3,558
If I had another and wanted it purely for bushing I'd be looking at a 3/4 terrier 1/4 cocker. I think you have to think about range when using beagle/harrier, its something i'd consider for big ground. Also some of the 'packs' on here i'd imagine work differently as single dogs, also they are brought on with experienced dogs so will more likely be brought on quicker?. Mine is a cocker in a patt body, which will suit me as i do a bit of beating, he goes on point a fair bit which wouldn't suit most folks and is close range unless on hot scent or insight of quarry, I can also call him off, which is especially useful when around holes etc as i know he'd go to ground in a heartbeat but that's not what i want. He was giving voice on bigger stuff but that seems to have faded somewhat, although he still has a 'lost ' bark, lol. After doing a bit of long range stuff with my previous runner, I'm going to be happy to bring everything in close with the next one, couldn't really be happier with my busher, he is proving to be an all rounder fur and feather and that is all i ask from him. If he gets some more fur in his mouth this summer and next season then i think I'll have my finished article. Atb Joe Joe. It's Geth so I know plenty about your dog. I would have him tomorrow! After seeing him out the last couple of times I think something like him would be ideal. Quote Link to post
