Ray Mears 272
the reason the made a meal of it is down to experience.. well the lack of it, you carnt expect a young dog to take fox without getting abit of stick and making a meal of it on its first time, it will come as the dog grows older and matures so will its capability.. nrat 8
Anyone had dogs that would catch foxes and hold them for as long as they had to getting a faceful of teeth but not actually kill the fox? I seen a Bitch like this today, it was her first single the previous 4 were doubled up with her father She caught the fox and made a meal of killing the fox, in the end she left the fox barely moving and we ended it. Now she got bitten very bad, it didnt put her off at all and she didnt leave go once but why didnt she do the job? Shes as big as my dog if not a little bigger and hes 55 lb so shes definatly strong enough Anyone ever had a dog that made a meal of there first and came good? Her fathers lurcher x lurcher and a very good dog, Her mother is a full track greyhound Il ask my mate to get a few pics to me later. sounds like the dogs game enough a lot of dogs taking punishment would back of,if shes still keen then she should stillmake it ,dont write her of yet, Quote Link to post

Blaze 49
Iv seen young in experienced dogs do this (like yours) as you say she has had a few doubled up so she is just doing what she did when the other dog was on with her......normally they learn to change their hold with experiance and learn a knack but iv also seen dogs never change...pulling them by the arse and staying on the arse which isnt going to kill them but also the dog will take some un necessary punishment!....Good Luck!
