In my opinion I cannot see you going far wrong with the Steiner brand as the glass is superb and really well made in the process.I don't know who has told you bad reports about the Steiner brand. However, I haven't had the pleasure of using the scopes but their Binoculars are very good. The glass is excellent and very well made.The company make Binoculars and scopes for the military so they must be good. Expect to pay quite a price and top spec will cost anything from £900- £2000.No doubt if you shop around you will perhaps get them somewhat cheaper. Hope you have some luck in your search.
