Ludwig 0
I have been thinking about this one for a while and am still none the wiser? Next year in March/April I may be able to house a secound dog. At present I have a 15 Month old Whippet who is turning into a promising sapling ferreting rabbits and has had some fun on the rats. I haven't started him lamping yet but may give him a taste for it soon. The Wife has put in her two penneth and has asked that we don't have anything significantly bigger than our whippet(OK by me as I don't hunt any thing but Rats, Rabbits and occassionally Squirrels) so I guess I should steer away from Deerhounds (although if I tell its just a Beddi Whippet when we get it as a pup then I'd probably get away with it). Now the main question that I was wondering is do I get a Lurcher to work with my whippet and that way have two dogs so I am not stuffed if one dog injures itself or do I get a terrier to bush for the whippet?? If I decide to go for a Lurcher/Longdog what cross/breed? I fancy something different to my whippet (no offence to whippets). I'm happy to entertain any suggestions as I have 5 months+ to think about this Some breeds that have crossed my mind are Kelpie X Whippets or GSD composits, but I have heard the former need to be worked every other day and would a GSD X be any good for bunny bashing? Anyway any advice or thoughts or just "what I would get if I was in your boots" are more than welcome. Cheer Ludwig Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
If you like the look of the deerhound but not the size then bedlington whippet seems to make the most sense Any small whippet cross would probably do the job though Quote Link to post
Pennymeadow Whippets 0
The best partner for a whippet is another whippet Quote Link to post

Ludwig 0
I can't argue with your pics Peannymeadow and cheers for that PM, Even though I can't argue I was hoping investigate all my options before setting on a tried and tested whippet X or pure whippet (after all they both make perfect sense) I've got 5 months to think about it, So I may as well get all these fancyfull ideas of running something abit more unusual out of my system; No one got any advice about exotic whippet or GH crosses (picardys or kelpies or GSDs or ACD or huskies or JRTs or even Besenjis) as all advice would be welcome (of course finding someone with a litter crosses would be niegh on impossible); Cheers Ludwig Quote Link to post
