Just a quick question,....

Why bother lugging the mink trap around insted of leave it be in the car and take out if nessasary?

whats the point of me leaving it in the motor ? if the day ever comes when i have a lay-up " touch wood " i dont have to leave the spot to leg it back to get the trap. how do i know when i leave to get it the ferret hasnt already come out & wondered else where under some under growth & out of sight & out of distance for my locator ? if i have it to hand all i have to do is fill every hole up apart from the one i last put it down & leave the trap by the hole...

Great pics. You did well to get that first bolter on camera! Looks like you'll have plenty of fun this season!

yeah i was lucky to get the shot of the bolter... i heard a lot of banging around near a group of holes and just had the camera ready.... bit of luck really...

good pictures richie, I personally would'ent bother with the trap, the collars are more than enough, looks like mk3 collars, so will detect to 15ft

and a hedgerow like that, much easier to longnet, saves the ferts dislodging the purse nets, as per your pic's

youre right, long nets would be easier next time. the sets are spaced out in sections. the set i worked today went on for about 40 yds on a steep bank and the long net would of got one of the bolters, but the two others would of ended up hopping from one hole to another :wallbash: . to be honest i was thinking the same when i was setting the purses out thinking it was a bit of a bollock ache  thats why next time im going to set my 100 yarder round the set to get the bolters wanting to leave the set and do a linford christie and set a few 12 footers through the set to get the hoppers.

as for the trap stubbs, theres no way i would even think of digging to depths to 5 foot+. if they ended up staying there past night fall the trap would be getting left.
