Any one interested where the word shit comes from

 

 

 

 

well back when the best way to transport large amounts of anything about by ship this included manure, and it was stored low down in the ship this more often than not got a little wet and it started to ferment (methane gas) so a poor little sailor gose down to the dark depts with a candel and bang blew the whole king ship up,at some time someone noticed why/how this was caused and marked all the bundels of manure with

 

 

STORE HIGH IN TRANSIT

As it happens, one of the little luxuries in life I've been promising myself for many decades now is the complete edition of Eric Partridges 'Dictionary of English Slang'.

 

In fact, being such a huge tome, I always figured it'd cost an absolute fortune. Know what? I sussed out, just the other night, that it can now be bought, brand spanking, for between about £20 and £60, depending on which edition ye want and what cover! :icon_eek:

 

Maybe one of these days then .....
