MattSquires 0
Hello! I'm very new to rifle hunting and just picked up a 30-06 and was planning to mount a Leupold VX-1 3-9-40 scope with the LR duplex reticle on it. Used for deer hunting primarily. Most of the land I'll be hunting will be only about 100 yards but I wanted to reach out tag a deer at 200+ if I ever got the opportunity. I was wondering if the LR reticle was good for a 30-06 or if I'd just be fine with a regular duplex reticle. Thank y'all and if you guys need anymore info please let me know. Quote Link to post
andyf 144
Hi: YES Your VX-1 is fine, it's a entry level centrefire scope, not the best but perfectly useable on your 30.06. I have one, it started out (and gave good service) on my .270 Win, today it's on an HW100 airgun and it's still doing a great job. Don't worry about the magnification, high mag for hunting is virtually useless, laying down and resting on swivel bipods is all very fine and good (on a range), but in the 'real' world you cant see more than 30 yards from ground level. Maybe up-grade later to a high end Leupold or Schmidt, but for now learn your craft with what you have. Quote Link to post
