Andrew Russ 31
Hi there hobs and Jills, newbie here looking for any helpful advice relating to the mysterious life of the ferretor.... What I mean is, i have many years experience of game shooting but am tired of spiting out shot from my table food, . And I have decied to increase my knowaldge of all things fieldsports by entering into the ferreting world . I have been gifted a 7 month albino Jill, who does not bite and is happy to be handled often. My first question would be how old should she be before being sent into a bury?? Is there any training that should be done with her before this first outing?? Is there anyone out there who could or would be prepared to show me(an old dog, but keen) the ropes. in my area.?? Any help and advice will begreafully recived Quote Link to post
001craigsaunders 5
Hi there all depends on the ferret really i have had young jills work well and young jills work poorly most important thing is to give them a chance by starting them on a small bury not very deep and preferably with a nice bolting rabbit in it. You can also make drain pipe tunnels at home for her to get used to going into the dark unknown with may be small treats of rabbit in them if possible. I could possibly come up to you from bristol and show how i do it with purse and long nets if there are a lot of rabbits to be caught. Hope this helps. 1 Quote Link to post
