Aaron 3
Hi all, Im currently looking at buying a .17 hmr and it looks like it is going to be a CZ, thing is, Why do you pay more for a shorter Barrel (£250 for 20''/£290 for 16'')? ok it is a heavier barrel, but, the length will affect the stability of the bullet and the velocity of the bullet so surely for longer range work/Fox control the longer barrel would be a better choice? would like to hear your opinions and preferances. Thanks. Aaron Quote Link to post
Guest Macnas
I'm not too clued up on rifles, but I've always thought a bull barrel on a .17 was a total waste of steel. The .17 standard barrel is in fact a bull barrel anyway, look at how small the bore is and how much extra steel there is. There is going to be hardly any, (if any) barrel flex or whip from a .17, it's not going to overheat so much that it starts shifting and changing the POI. You pay more for it and it doesn't give you more, if it was me I wouldn't start worrying about barrel profile unless I was using a centre fire cartridge, that's where it starts to make a difference. If i was buying a .17 I'd get the standard barrel type, the cz lux/american/style/silouette. I also look at the Marlin rifles, they are not as good looking as the CZ's but they are solid and accurate, and cheaper too. Quote Link to post
