liongeorge 7
I have a 3 year old jill that is really good and I want to breed from her . She lives in a court with a last years hob that I was hoping to breed with her. I have been keeping an eye on her but she doesn't seem to have obviously come into season, though about three weeks ago there seemed to be a slight change in her bits and the hob was being quite rough with her. If ferrets are kept together in a court and the males have access all the time do the jills still come into season properly? I have not bred ferrets before so is there a chance she just came into season ,got shagged and her fanny calmed down without me noticing. Two of my other jills have come in but one of them has done nothing yet. Is the hob old enough to breed,? He seems big enough though he isn't really smelly etc like they can get Any help much appreciated. George Quote Link to post
The one 8,597
Might of happened if she wasn't full in and the hob mated her , but normally it takes a fortnight for the swelling to go down Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
Hobb is old enough for sure.I run my hobbs with my jills all year and its never stopped one jill from coming into season.Weather you missed it or not would depend on the amount of time you spend with your ferrets i try and handle mine every day so fingers crossed not alot gets pass me. 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,597
Im no sure a young hob from last year could boss a mature jill into mating her unless she was right in season Quote Link to post
liongeorge 7
I like to think I was keeping close eye on her, so are you saying she must be pregnant as she is showing no sign now of season? When your ferrets runtogether do they come into season properly then take a while to come out of season after being served? If so that has not happened here. What are the first signs of pregnancy and when can I expect to see them? Sorry about all the questions Quote Link to post
The one 8,597
I dont reckon your going to see any diffrence for a while they might remain the same size and shape till about the last week then they seem like they could burst and the hair will come away from round her nipples Quote Link to post

If i want to breed i leave hobbs in with jills all year and have never noticed a problem with seasons, this year i did not want to breed so seperated the boys in march and wont return them to about sept.I like my ferrets to live as a group and it works well for me.Dont worry about the amount of questions thats what the site is for, enjoy!! 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,597
No being funny but my hobs have been in season since February and where removed from the jills and the jills hutched right next door to them are trickling into season , but thats not a problem as i dont plan to breed from any of them Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
Yeah my boys always come in season before the girls not sure why but they do. Quote Link to post
The one 8,597
Aye i was quite happy because it let me continue ferreting with the jills till the end of April . till i took somebody called Dogger out and he had a hob and two jills with him and it only wanted to pump my jills . but once we got it back out it settled down to work smaller burrows itself maybe the jills screams helped the rabbits bolt as that ended quite a good day Quote Link to post
