breeding tip

just wanted to get poeple to think about the skin of a dog befor breeding it i went out on the weekend with the hounds spotlighting and put a grey x stag on a rabbit it ran striaght into a tree with a stick coming out the side it ripped 1 third of its skin off and put a small puncture in its front right hand side shoulder had to get it put down at the vets if he had a better shin he probly would have been alright also he wasnt a good turner so found it hard to dodge the tree so next time u breed a litter keep the skin in mind

sorry to hear pal.... but a third of a dogs skin?? that takes some force surely?? if there was that much force involved then im sure the small puncture would of been bigger..... how would a better shin of made things right/better ?? im sure its shin was the last of the vets worries if the dog had lost a third of its skin.... whats your thoughts or suggestions on breeding good skin??????????? :hmm:

I would of thought a stag/greyhound would have better skin than most lurchers. I suppose its one of those things you have to put up with. If you prefer to run rough/broken coated dogs then its less of an issue but if you want light racy whippet crosses then its something you have to live with. Its horses for courses i suppose.
