Daz39 962
Thought I’d give my side of last night’s outing. I had asked Mac down again but went to work early to put a couple of hours in on site before we hit the field. I landed around 10 and zero’d the HW100 and went to sign in at security. I spotted 3 on the front lawn but by the time I had signed in, had a tongue lashing from one of them for zeroing my scope in the wrong place….the rabbits had gone, so I went round the back. Long walk cut short, I saw only 2 rabbits out in 1 hour, even after a little lay up and a slow wander, nothing much going on, and they were away before I could get remotely close. I decided to hit the front lawns and as soon as I got out of security I spotted a pair of rabbits on the road. I went prone and aimed for the closest one. He was square on to me, so I aimed between his eyes, squeezed and pop, over he rolls. The other rabbit ran when I did this so I walked over and spotted another rabbit yards+ away. There was a tree about 60 yrd from him so I went to that and lay up. There was no cover between the tree and him, and the flood lit lawn gave no chance for me to walk over to him. I hung around hoping he would come towards me, but he was spooked by some old banger and ran the opposite direction. I went back to pick up the rabbit and saw the pellet had gone in just above his right eye and come out of the top of his skull….done….dusted. Entry wound between nose and eye, exit wound top of his skull. I continued towards the reservation but there was nothing out at all. It was coming up 11:30 and Mac was due at 12, so I had a little lay up under one of the trees. I saw nothing for 25 mins, then spotted movements in the bush about 40 yards in front of me. When I put the lamp on I could see the rabbit at the edge of the bush but with a lot of branches etc round him. I still thought I’d have a pop, but only managed to hit a twig and scare him off. I went out and met Mac and off we went. He, as he wrote, went to his fave spot and lay down…this was to be the theme of the night….I decided to walk the field and chased 4-5 rabbits from 100-50 yards away, but all ran before I could get in range. I spent about 1 hour walking round and on returning to Mac, found him still in the same spot I left him. We went back to the cars for a brew and were back out in no time. We walked back to “his spot” and again, the owld lad dropped onto his belly and lay up….I decided to have a look on the road where I have seen a few rabbits before. Right away I spotted 4 and due to the street lamps, had to settle with about 40 yrds distance. I sat and took a supported shot and hit one of the rabbits bang in the head. Mind he flipped and jumped like an epileptic on a trampoline, good 2-3 foot bounces……..right into the thickest, prickliest brambles I’ve ever seen. I walked over, and stood still listening for him, but he’d obviously expired by now, though search as much as I could, I could not find him at all….one for the fox. I walked past Mac to check if he was awake, he’d murdered a little cute baby rabbit, days old (Boooooo – haha) hardly the size of my hand, though apparently tasty as owt on the BBQ J. I decided to lay up next to Mac to see if the dirt track was amazingly comfy or sleep inducing (why else would he spend 4 hours in the same spot? LOL). He spotted a rabbit and took a great 60yrd shot (I paced it out) but again bunny did a Zebedee and bounced into scrub land and vanished. I’d had enough and needed to walk. The last walk the dew had soaked though my waterproof boots and both layers of socks were now wet & cold…and I was getting grumpy. All the freekin’ rabbits were now staying out with the lamp on them, sitting there as I moved from 100 to to 60 yards, only to feck off when I got to 40 yrds. After chasing 4-5 rabbits down again I went back to wake the by now snoring loudly, Mac. “Hey, it’s all kicking off over here now, well lively”….oh the Irony haha. Back to the car to clean up the man size rabbit I shot and the fluffy ball of cuteness Mac got. Big rabbit, little rabbit By now I was ready to pack up 3:30am, but Mac wanted to get the bloody rabbit that had been taking the piss out of him the last few hours. You can guess where he went….probably, if you’ve been reading….so I decided to walk again. I told Mac I’d do another 30 mins then jack it. As it happened, I managed 15 before the lamp died, just as I took a shot (and missed) a rabbit. I went back to where Mac was but 10-15 yrds away from him, I was looking down the path thinking, I’m just gonna kick him and tell him it’s time, when he put his lamp on and spotted his nemesis. Reeeeeeeeeet, shoot it and lets feck off….no, it hopped one way, it hopped another way, Mac squeaked (cabbage soup he said), then thumped the ground and mr Bunny stood still……..the world froze, shooting stars stopped mid flight, birds hung in the sky temporarily suspended as Mac pulled the trigger….. time stood still….bang! Rabbit down. Thank the lord. Mac went and picked up his prize, a proper size rabbit this time, then proceeded to piss and moan for 20 mins about how tough it was and how hard it was to skin hahaha. The bucher says thanks mind Mac J My man-size rabbit Quote Link to post
