We just lost a local guy to it,he caught it through a cut on his finger.

A women up the road caught if from filling up the bird table.rats were eating the seed etc in the night she had open sores on her hand and caught it that way.she was seriously ill but survived.

Trapped a number of rats last season for a girl doing her research project on trying to isolate lepto, they had to be fairly fresh rats as the lepto which resides in the kidneys denatures after a short period following death, i had to disect the rat and store the kidneys for her to collect, she was also looking at lepto in other various rodents, mice, voles even got her a stoat or two, still awaiting her results and the recognition ? lol, it will be interesting to see if the rats i trapped where carrying the disease, i trapped 70+ rats last season so inevitably a number of them must have had it, with regards prevention from contracting lepto, plenty of alcohol spray, wipes etc and just to be aware of the fact that the disease is present and to keep this in mind while carrying out ones duties.

One of the bucket guys at work is taken funny turns and has twice been of long term they now reckon he has had a touch of weils disease after touching some rat piss on a bucket
