Guest world.hunters
what do all the lampers on here think that the biggest factor is when it comes to lamping condition. i have been out on dark nights with no wind and its been not to good then on much lighter nights with plenty of wind and there seem to be alot better. do you think that also the temperature and the rain plays a big role not on the dog but on the numbers of rabbits that are out. just wanted to know your views on the matter cheers W.H Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
I have always found that the best nights are at the beginning of the season Sept/Oct/Nov when the rabbits are green and sit around for longer and the best conditions are when it has been raining for several weeks and the ground is not too hard. Best weather is pitch black, windy and with fine drizzle. Of course if you live in an area with a good healthy rabbit population you will kill rabbits on nights that arent anywhere near as ideal as this, but these have always been the nights that have provided me with the best sport Quote Link to post

Guest whitser
good wind and light drizzle and your off to a good start. i think wind is the most important factor though. Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
Wind, rain and darkness are certainly the main 3 things you need to ensure that good numbers will be about and that they will be sitting further out and lying tight. If I had to choose one factor that seems to me to make the difference I would say rain because the rabbits always seem to lie further out and sit tighter on wet nights than they do on dry ones. That fine drizzle seems to be the best, Ive always had good nights when its been that thin eye stinging drizzle, rather than pelting rain. But of course the rabbits have got to be there in the first place, having the right conditions only makes it easier, but if theyre not there you cant kill them Quote Link to post
micky 3,325
thanks but what do you think is the single most important factor. cheers early in the season a wet windy night after a warm dry spell, .after the pheasant shooting ends ,a wet windy night aftera few frosty nights, wind is the killer, but after 35 years at it i found, so long as theres no moon ,just go ,anything can happen. dont go, dont get. micky Quote Link to post

towzer 3
the biggest factor for me is having the bunnies to lamp,if there not there no matter what conditions you will be coming home empty handed,at least if your lamping ground holds some you will get a few runs in any conditions Quote Link to post

Guest joe ox
thanks but what do you think is the single most important factor. cheers Darkness! It would be a bit pointless going out lamping in daylight. Then wind after that rain but not torrential. Although Ive had more success with fox's on dark nights with little or no wind/rain.
