I've got my targets in the back of the motor so I'll rig a few up about the place and see how that goes The permissions I have I walk all the time and know like the back of my hand with regards to lumps, bumps and way marks but a spot of target shooting is not going to hurt anything and only improve my use of the kit like you say. hutch6 550
It's amazing fun. Blasted a few targets in the back garden to see how well it faired and got into the swing of it pretty quickly - even shot a few from the hip western style just for a laugh. Then headed up to the rats. I arrived at the stables and went around the back to place myself in the main arena for the rodent traffic, set up my little camo folding chair (you gotta go the whole biscuit) and then went into the stables to turn the lights off that illuminate the yard for the security cameras. Staggered back to the my chair in total darkness and planted myself down for the session. As I switched on the NS50 (the click it makes at each turn sounds like a shotgun when it's dead still by the way Mr Nitesite, sort it out) the place came alive on the screen. I swung the rifle passed the tractor and trailer and then onto the banking where they all come out of. Massively overgrown with nettles. Head torch retrieved from the car, gloves on and I morphed into Monty Don ripping up the weeds. I cleared half of the banking that runs the length of the stables and then figured I'd leave them a bit of cover to keep things a bit normal. I was clattering about pulling loose stones up etc and filing in obvious holes they use with debris so I headed back to the chair, picked up my rifle, plonked myself down on my chair, turned off the head torch that plunged me into complete darkness and then lit a cig to pass a bit of time until they felt like coming out to play. I use a horse jump prop to rest my rifle on so I laid the stock on the recess on the top and drew a few relaxing tokes from the death stick. Having the attention span of a gnat with ADHD I switched the NS50 back on, just to see what was happening like. I couldn't believe it. Two rats were just sat, what looked like, having a natter about the weather. I can confirm there was a very brief spell of lead rain with two victims of the freak sudden down pour on what was otherwise a very clear night. I finished my smoke and disposed of the tab end, gazed back at the screen to see what else was happening and boom, another scamper sat having a wash at the bottom of the steel strut that holds the concrete panels that make up the sable walls. THUNK!! Down it went. Before my new toy I was having to use a scope light with stock switch and a red filter and as soon as the light was brushed over the area you only saw their arses vanishing quick sharp into the holes or amongst the rocks. Now I could watch them interact etc. Their eyes would light up like fire flies when they poked their heads out of the holes to make sure the coast was clear and then they'd come right out, have another sniff around or start cleaning themselves. Quite endearing to watch and I could see why people would have them as pets, wait, no I can't!! FIlthy!! THUNK! THUNK! THUNK!!!! They were dropping like flies and they were also everywhere and frequent. I'll admit my feet were getting cold and it was a school night so I only stayed for four hours but I estimate I plinked off about 14-18 of them before calling it quits. Before with the scope lamp you'd be lucky to get 4-5 after dark and that's with baiting as well. It's out on the bunnies tonight which will be more of a challenge I think as there is so much more to take in when gauging the range etc so a few targets at different distances will be used to get my eye in.
