rescue centre dogs

Recommended Posts

Sadly Lurchers don't tend to do well in general rescue centres, they get overlooked, which could explain why the dog has been there for so long. If you look there are many 18mth to 2yr old (usually male) lurchers in rescue, they do seem to go through a teenage stage- which could also explain the dog being returned.

I've 2 rescue lurchers, one would trip over a rabbit before he saw it- he was found as a stray (and I can guess why they chucked him out!) :icon_redface:

The other is just about a yr old, is very keen, and at the mo we're finding him very hard, his prey drive is so strong he just ignores us.

I'd say go for it, if, as Moll says, the dog can stay if he shows no working potential.

One things for sure, at 4 mths it wasn't thrown out for not having any hunting potential!!

thankyou all for some very useful comments it has given me a lot to think about .i have taken her out loads in the past couple of days and she is great but her prey drive is very strong and i am a bit worried she might just f**k off and not come back to be honest and the nephew is not that good wi dogs .i actually started thinking of her for myself(he can find his own dog!!!)but if she turns out shit it would be another hungry mouth in my kennels and the rest of them are good workers so its food for thought and i have a month or so to think about it as i still have my mates bull x's til he comes back off holiday.all the best everyone and thanks again
