Geordieboy 23
I have shot in a lot of situations with a lot of guns pointing at a lot of different quarry. Whilst I have 2 IR scopes I have yet to find any reason to turn them on in the field! Ref#9 Field of View is dictated by internal lens arrangement, Objective size has little to do with it, a wide angle 40mm can have a much wider FoV than a 50mm objective. Like for like a 50mm objective will have a slightly wider FoW but allow greater light transmission than it's 40mm equivalent, that's why it is offered! I understand what you mean, great info thanks. I did think a IR is a bit of a gimmick. ATB Geordiedboy 1 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
I do use IR a lot whilst daytime ratting. Only use when shooting into the dark shadows but works a treat in that situation. But everytging else I never use it to be honest. 1 Quote Link to post
Huan72 687
The amount of light transmission will depend on the magnification and objective size. To get the exit, divide the objective size by the magnification, so for example a 50mm scope divided by 10x magnification would be an exit size of 5mm...................the eye of a younger person has a pupil exit size of about 7.1mm, which means that an exit of 7.1 is the maximum that their eye will be able to take in, however this reduces with age so in middle age a pupil exit size of 5mm is typical, so a 50mm / 10x scope will be ideal. However big the objective, your eye can only take in as much light as the pupil allows it to........................I didn't explain that very well...............but basically divide your objective size by the magnification that you mostly use......................................................if your young, nearer 7 the better, if your a bit older, try to achieve at least 5. Anything over 7.1 is unnescesary from a light transmission point of view, as your eyes will not be able to take it in.....................hope that was a bit better, but I doubt it Quote Link to post
