In 30 yrs I've never had aproblem with them before, and, this did just come from a gunshop owner not the police themselves,I just wondered if anyone had heard anything from A&S or other forces.

Hi Guys

I'm a down south guy and I had to be mentored for 9 months on a .243

Luckily I got on great with my mentor and once he had written a letter/report on me I received an open certifcate no prob's. This was a better result than I had hoped for so although I know the Police should not be doing it I went along with it on the advice of the BDS and BASC. Have now got a variation for a 7x57 for Fallow and Boar and a .22 FAC Air Rifle. Seems they are now falling over themselves to be helpful once I had jumped through the hoops.

Only thing is that each time I make contact with the bill they ask when I'm going to do my part 1 cer't.

I just reply, when I can afford it and they seem happy.

Buckstalker.

Hi,

I applied for a F.A.C 4 years ago for a .22 rimfire and a 22-250 and got it no problem, no supervision but the licence was not open, I had to get the flo to visit all the land I had put down (11,000 acres of it!!) and he had to pass it suitable fo use. Since then, 4 friends of mine have applied for 22 centrefires and all have had to be supervised for 6 months, 3 of them I supervised myself. After 6 months I had to write a letter to the firearms dept explaining that in my opinion, Mr Bloggs was safe enough to use a firearm un-supervised.

What annoys me is that I have asked for an open certificate a few times as I constantly get more land to shoot on and have to get it all passed by the flo ( which can take weeks), but have been told that Dyfed Powys' policy is that nobody gets an open certificate until their first renewal (5years), except in some circumstances. So I am not suitable to have an open certificate yet I am suitable enough to supervise new applicants on the safe use of firearms :hmm:
