Rainy Day Blues

Recommended Posts

Bored silly due to the rain preventing me from working in the garden, I decided to stay dry and do a little shooting practice from my first floor bedroom window. I have a paper target holder, one knockdown/resettable crow and a gallery of four resetting targets at exactly 50m from my window, with my 1.2m high brick boundary wall as a safe backstop for the pellets; in addition I have several paper targets and several knockdown targets at closer distances. The rain (sometimes heavy) was playing havoc with the pellets accuracy, but in between showers I was enjoying hitting the targets shooting from the comfort of my bedroom. After a while I started to pick out other objects to aim and shoot at, blossom on the trees, daisy and dandelion heads on the lawn and anything that presented a safe target. After that I started to push the boundaries by shooting at sheep’s droppings in the field beyond my wall. They made great targets because the surrounding wet grass sprayed water up when hit, allowing me to see where the pellet landed if it didn’t hit the target and adjust my aim accordingly. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge shooting out to distances of up to 80m before the terrain falls away from view.

Regards, Steve
