scottishlass 57
not again I was at a local show yesterday ,i took my dogs along to enter into the dog show. The number of kids that came shouting and galloping up to speak to the dogs not even asking if they nice no wonder kids get bitten lucky for them they are nice and not nippy .kids should be told to ask the owner first if it is alright to speak to dogs Edited August 5, 2007 by scottishlass
redmoor 0
We were on holiday up North and could we get any peace from other peoples' badly behaved kids who were constantly at the dogs all the time..we even came out of the van to find a little boy IN our awning..yet when we asked the parents to keep him away she replied 'oh, he's only playing..' One little girl ran up to us, went down on her knees and hugged one of the dogs..thank God they are all used to children and friendly. We euthanase so many dogs every year for biting, and i have to say in most cases i think one day the dog has just had enough, some kids can be evil little . Sadly the dog is ALWAYS the ultimate loser as he/she loses her life. I'm not prepared to have my dogs put at risk from some who cant keep their kids under control. redmoor 0
Poor kid. I see families coming in who tell me that their dog is so wonderful with their kids, they kids can ride on him, pull his ears/tails etc..but surely there should be respect from the kids to the dogs as well as the other way around. My kids have been brought up from the day they were born with dogs, they were told to be gentle from the time they were tiny, not to touch the dogs when they were sleeping or in their bedsor when eating etc..surely this is just common sense? redmoor 0
I think the problem comes from the fact that people dont understand/respect that a dog is an animal, people say to me at the surgery, 'oh, he'll be ok..' i never trust any dog that i dont own..i have been bitten badly 3 times..all by Golden Retrievers at work..owners generally do not understand what their dogs are capable of. I have 6 dogs and trust them implicitly, i know them inside out, but at the end of the day they are animals with unpredictable capabilities and i think you have to respect that. If people had half a brain they would understand this. In drives me crazy at gamefairs etc when people let their children dash forward into 6 dogs and then ask 'are your dogs safe..' I always say 'yes, they are..are your children..?'

Guest Frank
Iresponsible parents and bad dog owners make a bad combination. I have a 6 year old son, he is allways supervised with my dogs, but, understands well not to hurt them ect. Its the responsebility of parents and dog owners. Frank. COMPO 54
I always tell kids and the parents off for kids just approaching my dogs without asking, i tell them that both my dogs do bite and they should have asked first as they are getting a bit hungry that usually sorts them out, if however they have the sense to ask first i let them stroke the dogs as both of mine love kids
