ghostie 76
My pup took himself off on a walk this evening when the two family dogs went out down to the woods. I got home from work and was leading my horses in from the field when I saw my pup running towards me with a bunny in his mouth. He put it down when he saw me and it hopped slowly a couple of strides then he picked it up again and carried it home with me. Once I put my horses away I found him by the house with it, it was still live, he didn't actually bring it to me but he left it when I asked him to and let me dispatch it, which I was happy about as I thought he may want to hang on for dear life. It had really bad myxi so was nice and easy for him to catch I guess, but really proud that he carried it home 1/2 a mile live and was grown up about the whole process. A pic of him afterwards, he was really quiet for a while, he looked like he was drunk, I think the occasion got to him a bit. Edited April 2, 2013 by ghostie Quote Link to post

ghostie 76
He's half Saluki, 1/4 Wheaten, 1/8 grey, 1/8 whippet. He's 24in (unless he's grown anymore recently!) Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
WTG ! I bet you are proud - isn't it lovely when they achieve something like that. I know I get all misty eyed and a bit daft when one of mine makes me smile ! ( oh, and you may want to edit the " he looked like we was drunk" - unless you were, obviously ! ) 1 Quote Link to post

Yeah I hope there are many more to come! I imagined him to be really excited and go mad after having his first bunny, don't know what other peoples pups have been like. He was panting for ages and I have been taking him out a few times recently at night and have slipped him on some rabbits and when we come back he gets really restless and pants loads. I wondered if it's just being over excited and he's still pumped full of adrenaline or if it's fitness... Quote Link to post

Dipstick can easily have a resting pulse rate of 20, and after grabbing a bunny it will be at least 160, and he is a very fit dog - not long runs to get them, so I work on it being adrenaline. He takes a while to "chill" afterwards, then sleeps for England. 1 Quote Link to post

Toby only got slipped once last night and didn't run for long and then we wandered back home (he was on the slip the rest of the time) so I couldn't see that it was his fitness. He's probably just finding this new job quite exciting! 1 Quote Link to post
