We'll i was out walking my 8 and half month first x bull greyhound, him and my mates pup were off the lead ona local cricet field when he clocked on to a rabbit, he hasnt done no work at alll at this stage at all, done abit of retreving with him and thats going well with a skin bringing it back to me and all that, so we came into the field there was a rabbit about 30 yard away, my pup stopped dead ears went up as soon as the rabbit moved he was belting behind it after a short run and a few turns he caught it when the other pup seen this the other pup was down there chasing my dog(my dog had the rabbit in his mouth still alive) the other pup didnt catch my dog whilst he had the rabbit we got the other pup on the lead, but my pup didnt want to come near us with the rabbit, soo i walked off and eventually he follwed me bt didnt come all the way in after a lil while of persuading him to stop he let me come up to him and take the rabbit off him, do you think he didnt bring it back due to his age, because the oher dog was soo keen to take the rabbit from him? or do you think this is just becsause it was his first time with the rabbit?i hsavent witneessed this happening before so i dont now how to stop it any adviceon stopping this? he wont be worked till next season.

Don't take two pups out together at all. And if you do take a pup out with another dog, keep one on the lead. If you have a mate holding one dog make sure he is a good distance away from you when you call the pup in: 30 metres away at least. More dogs have been ruined for retrieving by being out with other dogs than anything else. It is good that your pup kept hold of the rabbit and let you go to him to get the rabbit. Shows he trusts you, but the more times two pups chase each other over a rabbit, the more he'll be put off retrieving for good.
