Cleanspade 3,324
The only reason I'd see for crossing them is to put the Outcross into the Plummer. To add some working ability into your Plummer line. if there is a lack of workability. then its best not to breed it at all. nothing wrong with outcrossing as far as i'm concerned but it would need to be quality on both sides. otherwise what would be the point. and for the sake of discussion i would opt for a good old russell line as i feel it would gell better. but thats just my thoughts. each to there own idea's. 1 Quote Link to post
fireman 11,385
As it goes i know of a plummer x red pat from supposed nuttle/wheeler lines (who has done a good job under the soil) but the resulting dog is a pet and i did go to look at for possible use over my plummer bitch but i didn't like the look of it as it's a bit leggy and it's head and muzzle ain't the best either,it is full red itself and smooth coated but you'd find better wirrel. Cleanspade 3,324
I've bred about 15 litters of plummer/nuttalls fells, first and second cross and bred a lot of outstanding earthdogs, they also made good bushing/all round dogs, the first cross in my opinion were better seeming to take the better qualities from both breeds, but I must add both parents on all occassions were heavilly worked,WM This is the kind of pup you get from a smooth coated fell scans 016.jpg and this is the sort from a rough coated patt DSCN1182.jpg I found using a rough coated dog to the plummer that the litter would be split 50/50 on coats, colourwise and type. I still maintain Plummer made a mistake using a bullcross for the "new blood" as it took too long and too much litter wastage to breed out and reduce the size back to the stuff we're seeing today,if there is a male red smooth coated patt that is a decent earthdog out there at the moment that is available for stud then please pm me,many thanks,WM i must admit i like a handy sized dog but there are plenty handy sized terriers apearing in the new blood crosses now. and it would be good to see a few more of these tested. before they are wrote off some of the bull crosses have a serious work ethic. and anyone who doubts the benefits of bull blood check out that little fecker on molly/millets threads. . my best plummer has the highest % of bull blood. is that a coincidence and we need good plummers to outcross if nessesary 1 Quote Link to post
