whentyboy 0
Hi I was wondering how often I should be cleaning the barrel of my pcp? And if I haven't will this effect the accuracy of my gun? Also what should I be using to clean it? Cheers Whentyboy Quote Link to post
Craig Fosse 286
Hello mate, as for cleaning the barrel, you certainly dont clean it as often as a centre fire rifle or rim fire. Air rifles are a lot deferent and the more rounds you put through the barrel of the same type of pellet the more accuracy builds. Basically as every pellet goes down the barrel it builds up leading which moulds your barrel to fire the same pellet. I tend to clean mine after every couple of tins of pellets. Also when you get to know your rifle you will see it start to slightly decrease in accuracy, this is also a time to pull your weapon through. I use my s200 a lot so I give mine a service clean every 6 months where I take it apart grease the bolt etc etc. If you are ever trying out new pellets you should clean your barrel before hand, and remember accuracy for that pellet won't truly show till you lead the barrel for that particular pellet. Clean equipment wise... I'm an ex marine so I have loads of flanalet that I used to use to clean the gpmgs and my rifle etc etc so I use that cloth to clean the barrel, however you can get Napier patches off the Internet. Best bet is to get an actual air rifle cleaning kit, however you can use braided fishing wire on a loop to pull through, just remember to pull through the way the round exits the barrel. Pull through till no muck then lightly oil another patch and pull through....job done. I use Napier air gun spray but you can use any oil, Pcps aren't as much of a problem with dieseling. Hope this helps, I'm sure there will be others with more input soon P.s if your talking about a new rifle fire at least a few tins worth before pulling through...you need to bed your weapon in first. All the best Craig Quote Link to post
