decided to do abit of ratting with ferrets with 2 mateys , got 7 bolted with ferrets and the use of my 3/4 bred whippet 1/4 bedlington , and my mates saluki bull greyhound . the question i was wondering is even though we missed a few ect but still caught some will them sets be used by the rats again , as we went back today and not one rat , didnt even see one , would they just move on or is it the ferret smell still in the set? , we thought with them been rats and not rabbits they wouldnt care were they lived . stupid question i know but im new to ratting , mainly lamp with my dogs , cheers for any info ...

In my experiance mate, they'll be back. If it was that easy to rid a place of rats, people wouldn't have the problems they do with them.

I've personally had rats set up shop right beneath the shed I kept my ferrets in. Half an inch of board between the two. That gives us some insight into how little the taint of a ferret really means to a rat, eh?

a matey suggested we baited up the yard with tinned dog food , get them used to feeding were the set was , the set is located on a big mud hill outside a barn on farm land , only this time dont ferret the set but wait in my car and shoot with an air rifle , ... .. would the baiting work? whatever method we done i,e ferrets/air rifle ..

cheers
