Wee Sh*tes!

Recommended Posts

Got a call at work from my mum about 3.30 today saying that 4 of my ferrets had escaped :o:cry: ! So I said to my boss that I needed to go and booted it home (following all relevent speed limits of course..) to search for them. Turns out my mum had got 2 of them back that were on the path that runs along the back garden. One of my jills and her kit. Anyway I searched high and low for the other 2 kits. Now they are only about 8 weeks old so Im thinking the worst that if I dont find them they wont last the night. Searched all the neighbours gardens in there bushes and everything. And Ive got 3 sheds so tried to check underneath and inside each of them. Went up the road and asked my pal who keeps ferts if he'd seen them, he hadnt.

So plan B, I got out my jill again and put her back where she was found earlier to see where she went. And she made a dive under my fence towards one of the sheds. So I put her back in her hutch and focussed the search on the shed. But it wasnt looking good. Had to borrow a torch from a neighbour because out of the 2 mini maglites and 1 huge maglite Ive got not one of them had batteries that worked  . Chucked a bit of chicken under the shed to try and entice them if they were nearby. Then had a mooch about with the torch. Bingo! Saw the wee buggers about 6 foot away fast asleep but they soon woke up. So in the end me and my stepdad ended up cabletying a bloody chicken wing onto a landing net handle! Then shoving it under the shed from outside the garden under the fence. Anyway it worked and we eventually managed to coax them out. One was more shy than the other but I managed to grab him after he kept shying away from the edge.

So, thankfully I got them all back after about an hour and a half of worry and frantic searching, god knows how long they had been out they were fine at 8.30 when I left for work but anytime after that it could have been! I think the problem was one of the screws that holds the "lock" for the hutch had come loose allowing it to swing round. So ive sorted that and hopefully they wont get out again.

Sorry for the long read but Im just getting over the near heart attack of losing them now!

PS I think torch batteries are now on the shopping list..!
