hello 1st time after mink were im after them is round a lake so what would be the best way to cath the bas.....and best trap and bait etc..

Oh dear. Bang goes cage traps then. I'm not about to try and advise ye on how to trap a mink. Others here can do that ~ those who've caught them. I personally tried snaring one and just couldn't get that right. I then tried various spring / killers and decided to give those up because there's at least as many (protected) Pine Marten here as there are mink. So then I used a cage. Got a mink in short order - only to have a badger smash the damn thing beyond repair and steal my trophy!

 

Sounds like a job for a spring / killer set into a hole in the bank side, out of site of people. Trap firing should throw everything into the water and, with a bit of luck, el brock won't find it there. Even if he does, he wouldn't likely to to a spring trap and dead mink what he'll do to a cage trap for a live one.
