Hi folks i`ve been going out with my mate and his .22 rimefire at nights for the bunnys and i really want one of my own, my family farms about 1000 acres and with got permission from another farmer whose land is crawing with rabbits so i`ve plenty of land to shoot on but the only thing is i`ve been charged with possesion of cannabis about 8 years ago when i was young and supid :wallbash::doh: do you think there`s any point applying, do you think i`ll get one?

:drag: Benny, such a minor offence as having a bit of blow in pocket, about eight years back, should hardly even have wasted the court systems time, mate! I doubt it would be allowed to today.

Anyway, it should, I believe, long since have become considered 'Spent'. That is; They don't bring it up any more.

If I were you, I'd start window shopping for a good cabinet and pricing up some rifles ;)

Let us know how ye get on :good:

Ok, Benny; I'm not a Solicitor. I Do seem to recall though that there are two seperate time scales to these things. Don't quote me, but it's something like five and nine years. Basicly means that, if ye get caught pissing in an alleyway at night, that hangs over ye for five years. If ye do something scary bad? That holds for nine. There may be some further bits specifically to do with firearms. I don't remember the details as this is just stuff I've read down the years.

But first of all, let's get this into perspective. It was Cannabis, I'm taking it, yeah? Well, big f*cking deal! Hardly makes ye a candidate for membership of the Calli Cartel, does it? I mean, ye weren't found with several kilo's of the stuff under ye bed, right? Not exactly a 'Mr Big' then.

And ye've kept ye nose clean for almost a decade since? Honestly? No little bones in the closet ye not telling us about here? Because They'll know.

Anyway, what I'd do first, in your situation, is pop off to Google and ask it for 'Spent Conviction'. Be sure to select Google UK. Bound to be there. See what it says. Might even be worth adding Firearm or Firearms Application to drop the stuff ye need to read through. Maybe that'll give ye more peace of mind?

Either way, unless ye can find 100% Certified, cast iron proof that You Don't need to mention a 'spent conviction' on that application? Personally ~ and I can only speak for myself here ~ I'd mention it If the form Asks ye to. But it may even have a note to say they don't need to hear of spents? Your first job is to see if your conviction Is now considered spent and take it from there.

Just remember; They'll find out if they need to ;)

Now off to Google with ye and bring us back what ye find. This question's come up before and will again
