:hmm: Sorry mate; Are ye talking about the pup 'play fighting' with yeself, or with ye other Dogs?

If it's with you? Fine. Only tap it across the top of the muzzle with ye stiffened finger and simply say, " No. " should it Ever lay it's teeth on ye skin. No need to shout at it or try to knock it's face off. Idea is to 'remind' (reinforce the idea) it that Dads skin is Never, under any circumstances what so ever, to feel it's teeth. It'll soon get this picture and, years down the line, ye may just feel ever so pleased that ye taught it that trick.

If it's play fighting with Your other Dog(s)? Fair enough as far as it goes. My older bitch spends most of an hour, most nights, 'Teaching Small Dog how to die like a fox'. She grabs the JR by the throat and growls as she pins the bugger to the floor with the odd shake, to make sure. Small Dog gasps and wheezes and kicks in 'desperation' the whole time. But the moment she's released, she re engages the bigger Dog with much lunging and nipping till Orange Dog has no real choice but to 'Kill' her all over again. Fantastic fun had by all!

However; An American based friend of mine, an intenationally respected Dog Trainer, once pointed out that he'd simply Never permit Any of his Dogs to develope a habit which in any way sparked up any of his other Dogs. He said that long after Small and Orange Dogs had learned their party piece. I now see his thinking .....

What if Orange Dog had ever had a Really Bad day? Just felt like Killing some c***? What if Small Dog ever tried to start that game with a strange Dog who didn't love her? What it Small Dog wasn't wearing her Strong Stuff made collar, which allows for such abuse of her (otherwise) 'naked' throat?

All things considered then ~ as my friend points out ~ our Dogs should only Ever be allowed to 'Fight' that - and only that - which we dictate. And only when we give that command.

My own next (and probably last) pup will be a puppy amidst old Dogs and in the charge of an old man. I'll teach it, from the outset; It doesn't f*ck, in Any way, with Anything or anyOne unless I personally and directly say it should. (Not all my Dogs are kept to tackle things as pathetic as foxes and such. One or two could prove something of a handful! :whistling: )

There. It's only took me a life time to get that sussed out. But I'm learning ;)
