21dangermouse 86
Following on from my last ferreting report http://www.thehuntin...-legged-ferret/. We gained a new permisson through the old lady metioned in the last post who we had given a rabbit to. Which is a blessing as most of my permissons are still flooded/ water logged quite badly . The permisson is the grounds of a large house plus a few fields. After the formalities with the landowner we decided to work down a hedgeline from the garden down to bottom of the field. The first set was about 10 holes-mixture of hedge and holly bush so out went the purse nets and i ran the 2 stop nets out. We entered my mates 2 old sand jills in. within a couple of minutes we had our first bolt and first rabbit in the bag. The second bolt was embarrassing...a rabbit shot out and looked to hit the stop net, but carried on running, i thought it had blown a hole throught the stop net . On closer inspection i had laid the stop net over a bolt hole the bottom line was half coverng the hole. The shame of it . The second set had us leave the garden and into the field still on the same hedge line. We purse netted up and capped the warren off with a 10 yard trammel and 10yard stopnet and then ran the 50 yard long net down the hedgeline oppiste the fence. We were counting on the rabiits running the fence down to ethier of the stop nets and the long net was to catch and runners to the other side of the field. This time we entered two of my ferrets a small albino jill and stumpys sister Jubilee ( not named after the queens jubilee... no... named after the x men. Thats what happens when the gf picks names ). This was her first time out and was keen to start her on the rabbiting game. So in they went in and within a few mins the bunnies were out one to the stop net, one squezzed under the fence then ran back into the field through the gate just behind my stop net and across the field to saftey .The Third was caught thanks to the purse net. The thrid set was a cracker we purse netted up and used a few poke nets and still had the long net in play. In went my albino and jubliee and all was quiet for a good few mins and we were thinking nobodys at home. Then we heard a rumble and they started to get to terms with the rabbits all hell broke lose 6 bolted within a minute it seemed, we were diving left right and centre for them ( watch out tom daley ). we had two bolt from the same hole at the same time so we lost one the rest were all acounted for. The last rabbit of the day was seen at the entrance of the hole so quickly pulled it out to find jubliee stuck to its arse . That was the last rabbit we caught that day, we even had good old stumpy out in another small set but no luck. To be honest i am looking to add a dog to the team next year as that is what is missing from the team for marking etc. So heres a few photos of the day and the bag not the biggest bag by any means but another cracking day out in good company . cheers for taking the time to read atb dangermouse 1 Quote Link to post

Brimmer 220
Nice one DM, keep tabs on some of what i post up this year, i have a litter of four albino kits this year, 3 jills and 1 hob, they will be getting out soon. One of the jills is a Stumpy, i think born with a half tail, and three toes on each back foot. It has got the name Madge due to our lass working with a disabled lady, (called Madge.) Sometimes you just know when an animal is going to make it long before it ever goes out, the very fact it's still living, and is fiercely competitive for food with its siblings to the point of self sacrifice says it all! Go on Stumpy, Will get some photo's of Madge up in the near future. She will be worked, and will stay if promising. (Wont be bred from though!) Keep the reports coming! Quote Link to post
