Well im new round here and i have just been reading post for the last couple of days and thought today would be a good day to m,ake my first post. I am a member on smoochers and agbbs. I shoot air rifles, keep ferrets, and have just got my first running dog, still a pup (8 months). Shes doing well considoring when i got her at 5 months shes did'nt have an igloo, barly new her name and completly unobidient. Now she will do everything i ask first time no argument.

Now shes 8 months 23" tts, about 40lbs and im at that stage, should i start her lamping or wait a bit longer. I've finished up on her training and there not much more i think she need to know. Of course i brush up on her trianing about once a week just so she don't forget but other than that she at the stage i don't know what to do with her now.

Shes game for everything that moves but if it stands it ground she will stop and will even walk away if called. Now i have kept staff's (as pets) sience i was about 7 and i guess when i've saw her and then what a staff's i could be expecting a little too much. I know staff's are full of fight and confindence so don't really scare easy. But the pup cornered a cat the other day and like i said just stood. I don't want her slamming cats but still if she backs down to a cat whats she going to do when she comes face to face with a fox :o or deer. How can i raise her confidence? She could be so much more than a rabbit dog and i want to make the most of her? Advice please.

Now im thinking should i get her out on the lamp running bunnies or should i just let her watch the older dogs? If so how should i react when shes pulling for a go? If i don;t let her off im thinking im refusing her and give up pulling? What you think? What can i do with her now any advice

hi mate, i tell you what i would do ,being no expert mind,i would start the pup off slowly on mixy or young uns at about 10 months, only dont over do it,and make sure it catches or it may get lose confidence,as for pulling up on that cat my pup sometimes cant fathom out what to do if its not chasing it, i would start it on fox at about 15 month, all depends on the dog, also you havent ststed what breeding in it? cheers. ( forgot to add the ground is like concrete atm and will make it hard for it to catch, also risking foot injuries)

Hi mate, nice pup bit of a concoction. Like the other lad said i would let her have a tew runs when she is 10 months nothing to hard only young rabbits and mixy ones always do a pups confidence the world of good. as for the foxes ive always found it better if you can let them watch a more experienced dog before they have a go themselves. best of luck
