I like them BIG!!!

Recommended Posts

Went down the permission yesterday afternoon for a bit of an exploratory walk round to familiarise myself with the lay of the land as I have realised that with a bit of a walk round the bolt on to permission 1 is actually adjoining permission 2, taken me nearly 6 months to realise this!

Anyway got into the wood and stalking to my trio of fir trees I spied a nice sized bird sitting on a branch, Lined up, fired first in the bag, had to wade through a tangle of brambles to get to it, picked it up and it was big, I mean big! A pigeon who ate all the pies! I got underneath the fir trees and waited. Due to foliage I had a few fly in which were lost to view. If I cannot see it I am not firing at it.

A big flock flew in and landed. One was in the dead tree behind the firs, I turned round, but the setting sun must have caught my glasses or something because the entire lot took off. Waited and a new flock landed, one in the dead tree, this time I was read and fired, thud, another Pigeon who ate all the pies. They are big this year.

As the sun had set and with the light falling faster than Jimmy Saville's reputation I decided to stalk round when a solo pigeon flew in and was perfectly silhouetted against the night sky. One shot and it was goodnight Vienna! Another one down, but not so big.

Upon cleaning the 2 big pigeons were stuffed full of beans! I mean beans, but it is too damned early for them to be sewn, so where the heck they are getting them from I don't know, but some farmer has got to be half an acre of beans light now! The last pigeon I shot had been on the wheat! They are currently bathing in simmering water, with 2 bayleaves, 6 peppercorns and a dash of Worcestershire Sauce in readiness for becoming pies!

Unfortunately the damned camera ran out of batteries!

many years back the first pigeon i shot i took the breast of and flash fried with a pinch of garlic and ate out the pan, was bootiful, nearest thing i can think of was beer with sugar sprinkled on it, cant wait for sgc to come through and get freezer full of them, but they do seem to be on steroids this year for some reason... around here theres been a few problems with the crop falling farmer thinks either to much rain or a problem with pests.. either way could be alot of extra food on the ground from them just a thought mole ... all the best steve
