Times reloaded

Recommended Posts

How many times do you guys think it is wise /safe to reload .223 cases, i always reload to mid spec so rounds are not loaded hot and i also use various brass ie winchester, remington, sako ect been reloaded about 5 times to date and have no sign of damage, just wondered if there was an estimated throw away time :hmm:

My local fd sells new ppu brass ( 223 ) anyone used this, any good ?

Thanks.

Dont know anything about PPU - only a few things I have read.

Regarding case life, assuming you are reloading mid range powder weight and do not anneal and only perhaps full length say every 5 firings, there is no reason why you cannot expect at least 12 - 15 reloadings per case. Obvious signs that they are coming to the end of their usefulness is loose primers and a ring starting to develop on the outside of the case about 1 cm up from the head stamp - case separation. Also a split neck is the end of that case.

As a matter of interest, some of my 20 Tac are on their 14th reload (Lapua - never annealed), 22.250 on their 18th firing (Remington - annealed) and 6.5 on 12th firing (Lapua - full lengthed each time and annealed)

Brass quality is also a consideration regarding longevity - and I could be referring to PPU in this respect.

Thanks for your replys, much appreciated.

Dicehorn. iI full size cases every reload, will this reduce number of uses?.

Yes LD full length resizing every time will reduce the life span of your brass. For me and my 6.5 it is a trade off as it shoots better groups if full lengthed - that is why I anneal to delay the inevitable.
