when is best for budgies

hi all just wondering if any one breeds budgIes if so when do most people start and finish each time of year. I have a flight and shed with out heat or lights so what do you lot advise? is there any ways of heating with out electric as I have my set up on allotment? any tips or helpful advice would be great thanks

Get the flight covered from the elements,feed them well,Start them on conditioning seed and a bit of eggfood at the end of january,end of April put up more nest box,s than you have pairs,all at the same height and at least 18 inch apart,then let nature run its course.

do you find letting them breed like that is better than pairing them up in cages? I tried pairing in cages this year and was very disappointed to the amount of young that hatched and actually survived.

Cage breeding is mainly for show birds,it does though produce more youngsters under a more controlled environment,as budgies are naturally a flock breeding species,its best to let them breed this way,as long as nest site dominance is,nt allowed by dominant pairs,more nest sites than breeding pairs,at the same height,alleviates this.

spot on thanks for the advice can't wait to get goin next year and give it another go. bred some nice birds this year, my first attempt lol. think I will let them do there own thing next year and use my cages for some canaIrIes just got my self lovely pair of red factors they look nice fit birds. but will keep my eyes open for more. this bird keeping is addictive. lol
