not many people working greys then maybe thats why not many people have seen good ones?

Biggest problem with greyhounds is people expect a dog schooled and raced how many times to go in a field and have field craft and not get hurt when they been trained to run flat out generally in a straight line with no obstacles common sense should tell you it's a recipe for disaster. My dad got his before it was schooled or raced, payed a couple of grand for it. So could school it for the field. these are the Greys IMO should be the base of Lurcher lines tested to the work we use them for

And the reason there's not many people working greys is there's better options out there.

If you are serious about getting a pure greyhound and working it in the field forget about taking short cuts and getting an ex racer, get one as a pup and bring it on as you would a lurcher.

My Dad and Grandad have both, rightly or wrongly worked their racing greyhounds some of which were grade one track dogs. The last bitch was to my knowledge (i was pretty young) very good in the field and never had any particularly injuries of note and raced until 6 and working well beyoond this. The previous dog was again good in the field and was studded out to produce some very good lurcher, but did lose a few toes in the process, didnt really slow him down mind you. All that said, i think they would both admit a lurcher (they prefer the greyhound deerhound types) is a more sensible option for working. Could never fault the temperament of the greyhounds we had, very laid back and pretty obidient, i could happily walk them ot and about as an young lad, unless a local car popped out and then all hell broke loose.
